Caryn King has served as President of SCALE from 1997 through 2000. She stepped down a year early in her second term after the conclusion of over two years of contract negotiations. During this cycle of negotiations, SCALE was successful in obtaining safety retirement for the County Park Rangers, who are Peace Officers. SCALE also received equity increases for the Criminal Investigator classification.
In 2003, Ms. King was elected as President, and again in 2005 to Present.
Caryn King began her law enforcement career in 1984 as a Police Officer with the California State Fair Police. While working for the Fair, she also attended Sacramento State University (CSUS) where she completed a year long internship at the District Attorney's Office.
In 1986, she accepted a part-time position as an Investigative Assistant with the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) while continuing to work for the Fair.
In 1988, she went to work for CHRB full time as a Special Investigator. She continued to work for the Fair as a part-time Police Officer.
In 1990, she was promoted to Senior Special Investigator with the CHRB and in 1993 was promoted to Sergeant with the State Fair Police.
In 1994, she came to work for the County of Sacramento as a Criminal Investigator II.
In 1996, she served as the Welfare Fraud Representative of SCALE.
Ms King has participated in negotiations for the second time as President of SCALE.

" I have nearly 23 years of experience in law enforcement. Prior to coming to the D.A.'s office, I was at the Sacramento Police Department from 1987 to 2007. While with the police Department, I was a Patrol Officer, Swat Officer and a Narcotics Investigator. I was also an instructor at the Sacramento Police Academy. I was promoted to Sergeant in 2000.
I came to the D.A.'s Office in 2007, and am currently assigned to the Career Criminal Prosecution Unit. Since coming to the office, I have enjoyed the investigations and the new insight into the criminal justice system that i have encountered.
I am married a for eighteen years. My wife Rosemarie is a Deputy Sheriff. We have three children.
Will Safford is the Park Ranger representative for SCALE. He has served as a representative from 2001-2005. He later returned in the Spring of 2009.
Mr. Safford has worked for Sacramento County since 1991 as a Park Ranger Assistant. In 1995, he became a Park Ranger and currently holds this position.
Will Safford earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Parks and Recreation from CSU Chico.
"I have worked various shifts within the Ranger unit, including three years on the illegal camping detail and four years assigned to Sacramento County Parks located in the Delta. The bulk of patrol time is spent on the American River Parkway. I'm also a member of the Folsom City Parks and Recreation Commission. I'm married with two kids and reside in Folsom."
"My employment started with the County of Sacramento in 2001 when I began working for the District Attorney’s Laboratory of Forensic Services as a Criminalist. During my tenure, I have gained experience in Forensic Alcohol, Toxicology, Comparative Evidence and Crime Scene Response. I am also a General Criminalistics Fellow of the American Board of Criminalistics.
Prior to my employment with the County of Sacramento, I worked at Valley Toxicology Services from 1997 to 2001 as a Criminalist. While at Valley Toxicology Services, I gained experience in Forensic Alcohol, Toxicology and Drug Chemistry.
I graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 1996 with a B.S in Forensic Science and a Minor in Chemistry."
"I have served as a representative of the Sacramento County Coroner's Office with the SCALE Board, since June 2007. I have been a member of SCALE since I began my career as a Deputy Coroner with the Coroner's Office in January 1998. Prior to working for Sacramento County, I was a Forensic Technician for the Solano County Coroner. During my three years there, I was responsible for all morgue operations and was trained in investigations. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Science and a minor in Chemistry from CSU Sacramento. I reside in Rancho Murieta with my wife and two boys."
