The PORAC (Peace Officers Research Association of California) Legal Defense Fund is the nation's largest and most successful Legal Defense Fund; run by and for peace officers. The Fund is an ERISA Trust that provides legal services for public safety personnel. The Fund has been in existence since 1974 and currently has over 83,000 members.

All safety members of the Sacramento County Alliance of Law Enforcement (SCALE) are members of PORAC. This is to take advantage of the enhanced legal defense fund (LDF) benefits PORAC membership offers, but also for excellent Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance available to PORAC members.

PORAC and PORAC LDF membership is mandatory, which cost $5.08 per pay period.

PORAC Long Term Disability is optional, which cost $9.00 per pay period. PORAC LTD is administered by Myers-Stevens & Co. They have been providing group insurance programs to PORAC members for over 33 years. In addition, they also provide group life insurance, group long term disability and accidental death & dismemberment.
